Georgia Misses Out as 4-Star DB Nascar McCoy Picks Ole Miss

Ole Miss Adds Another DB as Streak Breaks

The Georgia Bulldogs have dominated defensive back recruiting, but they came up short on Saturday. Four-star safety Nascar McCoy, one of the top targets in the 2026 class, announced his commitment to Ole Miss, turning down offers from Georgia, Miami, Texas A&M, and Michigan.

McCoy, a 6’2″, 180-pound standout from Buford High School in Georgia, shares an alma mater with current Bulldog safety KJ Bolden. Despite Georgia’s close ties to the program, McCoy opted to join a growing Rebels secondary.

With McCoy, Ole Miss now has three defensive back commits for July alone, joining Iverson McCoy and Craig Tutt. The Rebels’ 2026 recruiting class is currently ranked No. 19 nationally and No. 9 in the SEC.

Georgia, however, remains in a league of its own. The Bulldogs hold the top-ranked class in the nation, including seven secondary commits, with four-stars like Justice Fitzpatrick and Caden Harris, and three-stars such as Kealan Jones and Tyriq Green.

Though the loss of McCoy stings, Georgia fans have little reason to panic. The Bulldogs’ defensive backfield is already stacked, and the program has built a reputation for developing elite DB talent that consistently makes it to the NFL. That track record continues to be a major draw for top prospects.

Even with McCoy slipping away, secondary coach Donte Williams remains the No. 1 recruiter in the 247Sports rankings. Georgia’s dominance in the secondary shows no sign of fading anytime soon even with this rare miss.
