Cowboys Make Dak Prescott Call He “Won’t Like” After Surgery

The Dallas Cowboys are tapping the brakes on Dak Prescott’s return, and it’s a move the quarterback isn’t thrilled about.

Coming off hamstring surgery and now 32 years old, Prescott was full-go in mindset entering training camp. But new head coach Brian Schottenheimer made it clear: age and injury history will force the team to be “smart” about how they manage their QB1.

Cowboys Play It Safe, Prescott Pushes Back

Dak Prescott hasn’t played a full season in three of the last five years. While he says he feels great, and even told reporters he can “play another 10 years,” the Dallas Cowboys aren’t taking chances.

“Now that he’s in the over-30 club, we’re going to be smart with some of the things we do with him,” Schottenheimer said via ESPN. “He is anti-that. He wants to do as much as possible. Luckily, we have the trump card with him on that.”

Translation? Prescott may be eager to go full throttle, but team doctors and coaches will hold him back for his own good.

That’s not the only heat Dak Prescott is facing. After signing a $240 million extension last offseason making him the NFL’s highest-paid player at the time, he’s still taking flak for playoff shortcomings. Even Jerry Jones has been critical at times.

The addition of wide receiver George Pickens this year aims to turbocharge Dallas’ offense. But a high-octane passing game only works if Prescott stays healthy, and that’s why the team is controlling his camp workload.

Dak Prescott also slid to No. 79 on the NFL’s Top 100 list, well outside the top 10 for quarterbacks. Still, he brushed off the ranking.

“Motivated? That’s temporary,” he said. “I’ve never really cared about a list… I know who I am.”

Whether or not he cracks another top 10 list, the one list Dak Prescott does care about is the one where he’s healthy and leading Dallas deep into the postseason.
