Caitlin Clark has taken a big step forward in her return from injury.
The Indiana Fever star guard, sidelined by a left groin strain since June 24, participated in her first full 5-on-5 practice on Monday. The scrimmage, held in front of MVP season-ticket holders, marks a significant milestone in her rehab process. Clark has now missed five straight games and 10 overall this season.
Fever Coach: Clark’s Progress Looks Encouraging
Following the practice session, Fever head coach Stephanie White offered cautious optimism about Clark’s recovery.
“This was really the first time we’ve been able to get her out as a live action, so we’ll see what it brings tomorrow,” White said.
Clark’s return could offer a boost to a Fever team that has managed a 3-2 record during her absence, including an upset win in the Commissioner’s Cup Championship over Minnesota. However, both recent losses came against the Los Angeles Sparks, exposing Indiana’s lack of offensive depth without their rookie phenom.
White also highlighted the potential of pairing Aari McDonald with Clark in the backcourt. The combo could allow Clark more off-ball movement and added flexibility on offense.
“It’ll be really good for us to get C off the ball a bit more… Aari gives her a break and our team different looks,” she added.
Though Clark’s availability for Wednesday’s matchup against the Golden State Valkyries remains uncertain, her appearance in live drills is a strong indicator that her return is nearing. The game tips off at 11 a.m. CT and will air on NBA TV.
Fans will be watching closely as Caitlin Clark’s comeback could be in today’s game.
