Dodgers Draft Outfielder Charles Davalan Despite CWS Blunder
The Los Angeles Dodgers made headlines during the 2025 MLB Draft, selecting Arkansas outfielder Charles Davalan with the 41st overall pick in the Competitive Balance Round A.
Davalan, who made a widely circulated error during Arkansas’ College World Series matchup against LSU, became a controversial name in college baseball last month. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, he misplayed a line drive in left field that cost the Razorbacks the game and a shot at the CWS Final.
Despite the mistake, the Dodgers see serious potential.
Davalan’s Numbers Prove He’s More Than One Play
While the error may have defined a moment, it doesn’t define Davalan’s season. He batted an impressive .346 with 12 doubles, 14 home runs, and 60 RBIs, sporting a .994 OPS for the Razorbacks in 2025.
Before transferring to Arkansas, Davalan played his freshman season at Florida Gulf Coast, where he hit .288 with 16 doubles and 10 home runs.
The Dodgers didn’t stop at Davalan. They used the 40th overall pick to also select Arkansas pitcher Zach Root, signaling clear confidence in the Razorbacks’ development system.
Though Davalan’s CWS error led to emotional moments and viral attention, many scouts believe the left-handed slugger has the tools to thrive at the next level. His combination of power, plate discipline, and outfield range remains appealing especially to a club like the Dodgers, known for refining raw talent.
Los Angeles is banking on Davalan’s resilience and upside, and if his stats are any indication, that bet might pay off in a big way.
