High School Derrick Henry Looked Like an NFL Veteran
Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry has long been known for his power and size. But fans are just now realizing how dominant he looked even back in high school.
The former Yulee High School standout became the subject of social media buzz this week after Sports Center Next shared throwback photos and clips of Henry as a teen. The Instagram post highlighted his jaw-dropping high school stats. But what really caught fans’ attention was how physically imposing he looked.
“Why does his high school highlight reel look like NFL tape?” one fan joked. “He’s been 6’3”, 240 pounds since middle school,” another wrote. From the size difference to the speed mismatch, it was clear Derrick Henry was a man among boys back then.

Henry’s Dominance Began Early
In high school, Henry ran wild — literally. Over four years, he racked up 12,124 rushing yards and 153 touchdowns, including a staggering 4,261 yards and 55 TDs in his senior season alone. His rare combination of size, speed, and vision earned him five-star recruit status and a scholarship offer from Alabama under Nick Saban.
Henry’s build and dominance made him look more like a pro athlete than a teenager. “Dude was already full-grown,” one commenter said. “It wasn’t fair for the other kids.”

Now 31, Derrick Henry is still bulldozing defenses. In 2024, he rushed for 1,921 yards and 16 touchdowns, plus another 193 receiving yards and two TDs with the Baltimore Ravens. Over his NFL career, he’s totaled 13,074 scrimmage yards and 111 touchdowns, continuing the legacy that started way back in high school.
Even though more than a decade has passed, fans remain in awe of Derrick Henry’s high school days. It’s rare to see an athlete with that level of physical development and skill at such a young age. And even rarer to see one live up to the hype at every level.
