Jon Gruden Eyes Comeback, Says He’s “Looking for a Job”
Jon Gruden isn’t done with football, not by a long shot. After stepping away from the NFL in 2021 following a controversial email scandal, the Super Bowl-winning coach has revealed that he’s actively preparing for a return to the sidelines.
Speaking at Detroit Lions training camp this week, Gruden told Detroit Free Press reporter Dave Birkett, “Hopefully I’m not done. I’m about to make a comeback.”
He made it clear: coaching remains his passion. Even though he’s currently talking football at Barstool Sports, Gruden still views himself as a coach. “I’m working hard to maybe get one more shot,” he added.

From the NFL to Junior High? Gruden Says He’ll Coach Anywhere
Gruden last coached in the NFL from 2018 to 2021, leading the Raiders before stepping down due to emails surfaced during the Washington Commanders investigation. Since then, he briefly served as a consultant for the Saints and later joined Barstool Sports in a content role.
Still, his heart is on the field. “I don’t care if I coach at Jones Junior High,” Gruden joked. “I’m going to coach again. I’m still coaching, just not on a team officially.”
Whether it’s NFL, college football, or even high school, Gruden is clear: “I’m looking for a job.”
Gruden’s coaching future remains uncertain. His NFL exit was clouded by scandal, but the fire still burns. He says he has private coaching assignments and even wears team gear while watching games, though no one knows who he’s rooting for.
Did you know? In NFL history, only a handful of head coaches have returned to the league after stepping down due to controversy, and fewer still after a multi-year break.
If an opportunity arises, Gruden insists he’s ready.
