NASCAR Veteran Suffers Major Injuries in Fiery Crash

NASCAR Truck Series driver Stewart Friesen is recovering in the hospital after a terrifying fireball crash during a Super DIRTcar Series race in Quebec, Canada. The 42-year-old veteran suffered serious injuries, including fractures to his right leg and pelvis.

The horrifying incident unfolded Monday night at Autodrome Drummond. Friesen’s No. 44 dirt modified slammed into the Turn Two wall, hit a tire barrier, and launched into the air before erupting into flames. Just seconds later, the wrecked car was struck again by another driver, compounding the damage.

Track safety crews quickly responded, and Friesen was conscious and communicative as he was extracted from the wreckage. He was then transported to a local hospital.

His NASCAR team confirmed the injuries and thanked fans for their overwhelming support. “Stewart is alert and talking… Thank you for all the comments and messages of concern and compassion,” they shared in a statement on X.

Friesen’s wife, Jessica, also posted an emotional update. “He has suffered an unstable/open-book pelvic fracture, meaning his pelvis is broken in multiple places, along with a fractured right leg,” she wrote. “He remains in tremendous pain but is now resting in better spirits after receiving pain medication.”

Doctors have cleared Friesen of any head, neck, or spine injuries, but both major fractures will require surgery. He has since been moved to a larger hospital for further treatment.

Friesen, a fan favorite, has raced full-time in the NASCAR Truck Series since 2019. He recently punched his ticket to the 2025 playoffs with a win at Michigan, his fourth career victory in the series. He currently sits 13th in points, with just two races left in the regular season.

The crash comes just days after other fiery incidents at Dover and Indianapolis, renewing safety discussions across NASCAR.
