Malik Beasley Tumultuous NBA Offseason
Malik Beasley is facing major off-court challenges as legal issues mount during his NBA offseason. The former Detroit Pistons guard was evicted from a luxury apartment in downtown Detroit this week after allegedly failing to pay over $21,000 in rent.
According to The Detroit News, Beasley had been residing at The Stott, a high-rise owned by Bedrock Detroit, which is part of Dan Gilbert’s business network. The eviction order was filed in the 36th District Court after two lawsuits were brought against the 28-year-old guard. One of the claims includes a $7,355 rent default. And that has resulted in a default judgment due to Beasley’s lack of response.
Further complicating the case, the presiding judge — Andrea Bradley-Baskin — is currently under FBI investigation for alleged bribery and fraud, adding another layer of controversy to the proceedings.

Beasley Remains Focused Despite Off-Court Setbacks
This legal drama caps off what’s already been a rough summer for Beasley. A three-year, $42 million deal from the Pistons was reportedly pulled after Beasley’s name surfaced during an FBI gambling probe. He became a free agent shortly after.
Despite the turmoil, Beasley remains determined to push forward. In a candid Snapchat video, he opened up about the pressure and criticism:
“I feel like people have turned their backs on me… I’ve made mistakes, yes, but I’m human. Until something else happens, I just gotta stay positive and stay lowkey.”
"People were saying some crazy things in the media… people judging me… I'll tell you one thing, I got a chip on my shoulder. I'm ready to destroy anybody in front of me, I'm ready to prove again that I belong in this league."

He added that he’s carrying a chip on his shoulder and is eager to prove he still belongs in the league.
During the 2024–25 NBA season, Beasley made a strong impact with Detroit, signing a one-year deal worth $6 million. He averaged 16.3 points per game and hit over 300 three-pointers. Further joining Stephen Curry and Anthony Edwards in that elite group. He also finished second in Sixth Man of the Year voting and helped the Pistons reach the playoffs for the first time since 2019.
While the lawsuits and eviction may cloud his offseason, Beasley’s on-court performance shows he’s still capable of making noise in the NBA. Whether he lands a new deal remains to be seen, but his drive to bounce back is unmistakable.
