10 NFL Front Offices That Talk Like Geniuses and Draft Like Amateurs

Every NFL front office wants to be seen as the smartest room in the league. They hold press conferences filled with buzzwords, analytics references, and smug confidence like they’re playing chess while everyone else is stuck on checkers.

But when the draft rolls around, some of those so-called masterminds fumble like they’re picking names out of a hat. These are the front offices that sound like Harvard but draft like a fantasy league on autopick.

The Chargers love to tout their commitment to roster building and long-term development. But for all their talk, they’ve had a hard time drafting players who actually stay healthy—or stay on the team.

9. New Orleans Saints

They’ll tell you they’re all in on competing every year, but their draft strategy often feels like throwing darts with a blindfold. Somehow, they mortgage the future, reach for prospects, and act like it’s all going according to plan.

8. Las Vegas Raiders

From Al Davis to the present day, swagger has never been in short supply. Unfortunately, that same confidence has led to some wildly questionable picks that don’t survive past year two.

7. Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings act like they’ve cracked the code on roster building, but their draft history says otherwise. There’s always a sense they’re one pick away from greatness… yet that pick tends to be a head-scratcher.

6. Arizona Cardinals

Arizona’s front office loves to make headlines with bold moves and big statements. But when it’s time to actually build through the draft, they often come away with players that leave fans asking, “Who?”

5. Chicago Bears

They hype up every pick like it’s the missing piece to greatness, but it rarely pans out that way. The Bears have a long history of chasing saviors and ending up with busts.

4. Atlanta Falcons

If draft-day confidence translated to wins, the Falcons would be a dynasty. Instead, they keep making strange decisions that leave analysts and fans alike scratching their heads.

Every draft season, the Colts present themselves as the model of patience and precision. But year after year, their picks don’t quite match the self-congratulatory tone from the podium.

The Jets draft with the confidence of a team that’s won something recently. Spoiler alert: they haven’t, and their long list of busted picks is a major reason why.
