The NFL can be brutal on the field, but some players managed to do real damage to their careers away from it. Whether it was bad decisions, off-field drama, or just plain bad luck, these guys took the scenic route straight out of stardom.

Some had all the talent in the world but couldn’t stay out of their own way. From arrests to attitude problems to just forgetting football was a job, these 20 players dropped the ball where it mattered most—off the field.

20. Josh Gordon
