Released in 2022, Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration is both a videogame compilation and an interactive documentary chronicling the history of Atari. It includes 109 video games originally made for arcades, Atari computers, standalone handhelds, and game consoles. Each game has a single safe state and controls can be remapped. This collection and the documentary are top-notch.
9. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection
Released in 2022, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection features 13 games developed by Konami between 1989 and 1994. The games were originally released on arcade, NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, and Game Boy. Featuring some of the best games in the series, four of the games are single-player only. However, the rest feature multiplayer and six provide online multiplayer.
8. Sonic Origins Plus
Released in 2022, the Sonic Origins Plus video game compilation features remasters of the first four titles in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. You also get 12 Sonic Game Gear titles via the Plus expansion These were originally released for Sega Genesis and the Sega CD between 1991 and 1994. The games can be played in their classic format or widescreen.
7. Capcom Fighting Collection
Released in 2022, the Capcom Fighting Collection celebrates the 35th anniversary of the Street Fighter series. The collection includes arcade versions of 10 games originally released between 1994 and 2003. You’ll find all five Darkstalkers games. It also includes two pocket fighter games and two other lesser-scene fighters. Plus, you can play against others online.
6. Wonder Boy Anniversary Collection
Released in 2022, the Wonder Boy Anniversary Collection, while not 100% complete, is a must for fans of the series that began with the 1986 retro classic. It contains five Wonder Boy titles and Monster World IV with 21 ports. You get several versions, including arcade, Sega, SG-1000, Game Gear, Genesis, and Mega Drive.
5. Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium
Released in 2021, Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium offers 32 arcade games originally published between 1984 and 2001. Besides Capcom’s arcade hits, you also find some more obscure classics. Best of all, you can pick and choose which games you want from the collection. The only downside is there is no support for online play.
4. Ray’z Arcade Chronology
Released in 2023, Ray’z Arcade Chronology features three legendary Ray arcade Shoot ’em ups from the 1990s trilogy. In addition, there are HD versions of the 3D games in the series featuring crisp polygonal graphics made for Switch. Note that the download version does not include R-Gear in the compilation.
3. Blizzard Arcade Collection
Released in 2021, the Blizzard Arcade Collection celebrates the company’s 30th anniversary. In addition to the arcade Classics The Lost Vikings, Blackthorne, and Rock N Roll Racing, it includes two original console releases. Modern features like saving, rewinding, and enhanced local multiplayer have been added. There are also digital manuals and interviews.
2. Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection
Released in 2023, the Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection by Capcom delivers all the games in the series plus their various versions. It contains ten titles from the series. In addition, there is a gallery of illustrations and music. Perhaps the best addition to this RPG collection is its online multiplayer support.
1. Collection of Mana
Released in 2019, while not complete, Collection of Mana includes the first three games in the series. But that’s okay since they’re the titles most people want to play anyway. Also included are Final Fantasy Adventure/Mystic Quest, Secret of Mana, and Trials of Mana. The latter two allow for multiplayer.
