Rickie Fowler Locks in Open Championship Spot After Clutch Deere Finish

Rickie Fowler Secures Open Championship Berth With Timely Deere Run

Rickie Fowler is officially headed to The Open Championship at Royal Portrush. And the timing couldn’t be more perfect.

The 35-year-old earned his place in golf’s final major of the year with a top-10 finish at the John Deere Classic. And choosing to skip the Genesis Scottish Open in favor of the U.S.-based event. That gamble paid off, giving Fowler a much-needed confidence boost heading into the season’s home stretch.

“Play potentially 3M and/or Wyndham,” Fowler said earlier this week, unsure of his schedule until the weekend played out.

Now his next stop is Northern Ireland, where The Open Championship tees off July 17–20 at the dramatic Royal Portrush. With three career top-10 finishes at The Open, including a runner-up showing in 2014, Fowler is no stranger to links success.

It’s been 608 days since Fowler last won on the PGA Tour—the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic. But signs of his old magic have reemerged. At the Cognizant Classic earlier this season, the former Honda Classic champ birdied 13 at PGA National to briefly tie for the lead. Further showing he still has the game to contend.

Now with momentum from his strong finish at the Deere, Fowler heads overseas with renewed hope. A strong showing at Portrush could revitalize his 2025 campaign and silence doubts about his future.

He’s played in 12 Open Championships to date, and with one of golf’s toughest tests awaiting, Fowler may be primed for a deep run.
