Ionescu Calls Out WNBA’s “No-Break” Schedule
Saturday’s WNBA All-Star Game was supposed to be a celebration, but it ended up exposing a deeper issue in the league. Despite fireworks from Team Collier, who shattered records with a 151-131 win, the matchup felt sluggish from the start. And Sabrina Ionescu believes she knows why.
With Caitlin Clark missing from the roster, fans in Indiana still rallied hard for Team Clark, adopting her as the city’s honorary superstar. But their support wasn’t enough to spark a miracle. Team Collier, led by a red-hot Napheesa Collier, dominated from buzzer to buzzer. She dropped 36 points and grabbed nine rebounds, securing a convincing victory and setting a new All-Star scoring record.
“We Don’t Get a Break” – Ionescu Sounds Off
After the lopsided affair, Ionescu didn’t mince words. Instead of focusing on the loss, she addressed the elephant in the room: player exhaustion.
“I think it probably would have been a little bit more competitive if teams didn’t play in such a short amount of days,” she said. “All-Stars don’t really have a break. We finish, we get on a flight the next day.”
Her comments come amid ongoing WNBA collective bargaining agreement talks between players and the league, where issues like scheduling, rest, and recovery time are hot-button topics.
Sabrina Ionescu says the All-Star Game would’ve been “more competitive” if there was a longer break before the regular-season resumes.

The All-Star Game is meant to highlight the best the league has to offer. But when top players like Ionescu speak out publicly, it’s a sign that the system needs change. While the fans showed up, and Team Collier showed out, the uneven energy on the court painted a clear picture: talent alone isn’t enough if players are running on empty.
The WNBA has made huge strides. But for Future All-Star Game to truly shine, it might need to start with giving its stars a real break.
