After the lopsided affair, Ionescu didn’t mince words. Instead of focusing on the loss, she addressed the elephant in the room: player exhaustion.

“I think it probably would have been a little bit more competitive if teams didn’t play in such a short amount of days,” she said. “All-Stars don’t really have a break. We finish, we get on a flight the next day.”

Her comments come amid ongoing WNBA collective bargaining agreement talks between players and the league, where issues like scheduling, rest, and recovery time are hot-button topics.

The All-Star Game is meant to highlight the best the league has to offer. But when top players like Ionescu speak out publicly, it’s a sign that the system needs change.
