Schwarber Crushes 39th Homer to Pass Ohtani
Kyle Schwarber just sent a loud message across the National League. With a 427-foot missile into the upper deck. The Philadelphia Phillies slugger surged past Shohei Ohtani to become the new NL home run king.
Facing the Baltimore Orioles Monday night, Schwarber turned on a 93 mph fastball from Cade Povich and didn’t just clear the fence, he cleared the stadium’s third deck. The ball left his bat at 110.9 mph, his 39th home run of the season breaking a tie with Ohtani for the top spot in the league.

That blast also tied the game 3-3 in the bottom of the third, showing just how crucial Schwarber’s swing is as the Phillies fight to secure the NL East.
With Eugenio Suárez now traded to the Seattle Mariners, the once-crowded NL home run race has thinned out. That leaves Schwarber and Ohtani battling it out and for now, Schwarber has the edge.
Ohtani may be a two-way superstar. But Schwarber’s power surge is giving the Phillies exactly what they need down the stretch.
