Shaquille O’Neal isn’t known for holding back. And he definitely didn’t mince words when it came to defending Angel Reese this week.
The NBA legend issued a direct and fierce warning to Robert Griffin III (RG3) after the former NFL quarterback shared a racist edit of Reese on the cover of NBA 2K26. RG3 claimed he posted it to “call out” the racism, but fans weren’t buying it. Most questioned why he’d amplify such an offensive image to his massive audience in the first place.
“Keep Angel Reese’s name out of your mouth,” Shaq said during his appearance on the Off the Record podcast. “Do it again and I’ma punch you in your face.”

Shaq Takes It Personally
For Shaq, this isn’t just about calling out poor behavior—Angel Reese is family.
“I told her to keep it classy,” he said. “That’s like my daughter. So when I see people attacking her, I take it personally.”
The LSU star-turned-Chicago Sky forward has dealt with her share of controversy and hate since entering the WNBA, but she’s also become one of its breakout stars. Her ongoing rivalry with Caitlin Clark has drawn headlines, but the backlash she’s faced, including racially charged attacks online, has crossed the line for many including O’Neal.
My mom had a chance to instruct the Celtics for a few years and she said Shaq was a super respectful guy when he was on the team.

While Shaq’s words were blunt, fans on social media largely backed him. Many praised the Hall of Famer for using his platform to defend Angel Reese, who continues to battle criticism while helping lead a resurgent Chicago Sky team.
Shaq has always embraced a protective role when it comes to younger athletes. And with Reese, it’s no different. As she continues her journey in the WNBA spotlight, it’s clear she has some powerful allies watching her back.
