Stacey King Slams WNBA Stars for “Petty” Behavior

Stacey King Blasts WNBA Stars for Caitlin Clark Shade

The tension in the WNBA is rising, and it’s not just about the new collective bargaining agreement.

During Saturday’s All-Star Game, players made a bold statement, wearing shirts that read “Pay Us What You Owe Us.” But what should have been a powerful moment of unity got overshadowed by Kelsey Plum’s subtle dig at Caitlin Clark. Plum pointed out that “0 members of Team Clark were present” during pregame discussions about the protest shirt, suggesting the star guard skipped out on solidarity.

Even Sabrina Ionescu, sitting beside Plum, looked stunned.

“It’s Hurting Their League,” Says Stacey King

Former NBA champ Stacey King wasn’t impressed. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), King called out the growing hostility some veterans are directing toward Clark.

“As you’re fighting for better salaries… you still find a way to throw shade at Caitlin Clark… Why??” King wrote. “Some of these girls are really petty and someone needs to explain to them it’s hurting their league. It’s sad to see!”

Clark has played a major role in boosting the league’s visibility and viewership. Yet, despite helping bring more attention (and money) to the WNBA, she remains a target of criticism.

Caitlin Clark and Players Still United on Bigger Issues

Despite the shade, Clark remains focused on progress. After a recent WNBA Players’ Association meeting, she praised the turnout: “There’s over 40 other players in this league [present] and I’m sure a lot more would have loved to be in there if they were in Indianapolis… we should be paid more.”

As CBA talks continue with hopes of a deal by October, the WNBA has a real shot to reshape its future. But to truly move forward, players may need to leave personal beefs behind and rally around the bigger goal: getting what they deserve.
