Tiger Woods’ son Charlie Falls Short of Championship Expectations

Charlie Woods’ Comeback Falls Short at US Junior Amateur

Charlie Woods, son of golf legend Tiger Woods, faced another difficult outing on the national stage as he missed the cut at the US Junior Amateur Championship, despite a valiant second-round effort.

The 15-year-old entered this year’s event hoping to improve on last year’s performance, but a disastrous 11-over first round at Brook Hollow Golf Club on Monday left him in a deep hole. With his father Tiger watching from the sidelines, Charlie’s early struggles virtually sealed his fate.

On Tuesday, Charlie returned to action at Trinity Forest Golf Club and showed resilience. He played the front nine in even-par 36, giving him a fighting chance to salvage the round. However, late bogeys on the 17th and 18th holes left him with a 3-over 74, finishing 12 strokes off the cut line.

This year’s results mirror last year’s tough showing, where Charlie carded rounds of 82 and 80 at Oakland Hills.

His entry into the 2025 tournament came after a clutch playoff performance at a qualifying event in Coral Springs, Florida, showing promise despite the outcome this week.

Notably, the US Junior Amateur has been a launchpad for many golf greats, including Tiger Woods, who won the tournament three times (1991–1993). Other past champions include Jordan Spieth, Scottie Scheffler, Brian Harman, and Johnny Miller.

While Charlie Woods won’t be adding his name to that prestigious list just yet, the experience adds another chapter to his young and closely-watched career.

Will he live up to the legacy of his dad, or carve out his own? Time will tell.
