14 Trades NFL Players Wished They Could Undo

Getting traded in the NFL can feel like a fresh start—or a nightmare. Some players leave a team thinking they’re upgrading their situation, only to find themselves in football purgatory with worse coaching, fewer wins, or much less relevance.

This list is for the guys who probably stared at the ceiling their first night with a new team and thought, “What did I just do?” Whether it was bad timing, a bad fit, or bad luck, these trades aged like milk the second they happened.

14. DeAndre Hopkins

Dec 8, 2024; Kansas City, Missouri, USA; Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins (8) celebrates after scoring against the Los Angeles Chargers during the first half at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

When Hopkins got shipped from Houston to Arizona, it looked like a win for him—until the Cardinals turned into chaos central. He went from Deshaun Watson to the Kyler-Kliff comedy hour real fast.

13. Donovan McNabb

Oct 9, 2011; Minneapolis, MN, USA; Minnesota Vikings quarterback Donovan McNabb (5) against the Arizona Cardinals at the Metrodome. The Vikings defeated the Cardinals 34-10.

McNabb going to Washington was supposed to prove he still had it in the NFC East. Instead, it just proved Philly moved on at the right time.

12. Yannick Ngakoue

Dec 15, 2024; Glendale, Arizona, USA; New England Patriots linebacker Yannick Ngakoue (55) against the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium.

Ngakoue forced his way out of Jacksonville, only to bounce from team to team without finding a real home. Sometimes the grass isn’t greener—it’s just more unstable.

11. Randy Moss (to the Raiders)

Dec. 31, 2005; Oakland, Calif, USA; Oakland Raiders wide receiver (18) Randy Moss expresses his displeasure with head coach Norv Turner (not pictured) during their game against the New York Giants in the fourth quarter at McAfee Coliseum.

Going from Minnesota to Oakland was like teleporting from a playoff hunt to football purgatory. Moss looked uninterested, and honestly, who could blame him?

10. Trent Richardson

May 26, 2015; Alameda, CA, USA; Oakland Raiders running back Trent Richardson (33) catches a pass at organized team activities at the Raiders practice facility.
Kirby Lee-Imagn Images

Richardson thought a trade to the Colts meant a better offense and more opportunities. What it meant was the beginning of the end for his NFL career.

9. Sam Bradford

Sep 23, 2018; Glendale, AZ, USA; Arizona Cardinals quarterback Sam Bradford (9) warms up prior to facing the Chicago Bears at State Farm Stadium.

Bradford had so many “fresh starts” that you’d think one would eventually work out. But getting traded to the Eagles came with sky-high expectations and the same old injury problems.

8. Amari Cooper (to Dallas)

Oct 10, 2021; Arlington, Texas, USA; Dallas Cowboys receiver Amari Cooper (19) reacts after dropping a pass on third down in the third quarter against the Denver Broncos at AT&T Stadium.

Sure, Cooper had flashes in Dallas, but he left Oakland only to deal with another inconsistent quarterback situation. And let’s say the Cowboys fanbase isn’t exactly patient.

7. LeSean McCoy

Oct 17, 2019; Denver, CO, USA; Kansas City Chiefs running back LeSean McCoy (25) runs the ball in the first quarter against the Denver Broncos at Empower Field at Mile High.
Isaiah J. Downing-Imagn Images

McCoy was blindsided by Chip Kelly and sent to Buffalo, where the cold and losing records struck. He put up numbers, but the vibes were never quite right.

6. Percy Harvin

Nov 7, 2016; Seattle, WA, USA; Buffalo Bills wide receiver Percy Harvin (11) participates in pregame warmups against the Seattle Seahawks at CenturyLink Field.

Harvin’s trade to Seattle looked great on paper, but injuries and locker room drama made it a headache. One huge Super Bowl play couldn’t mask all the off-field mess.

5. Josh Rosen

Aug 12, 2022; Jacksonville, Florida, USA; Cleveland Browns quarterback Josh Rosen (19) looks to throw the ball during the third quarter of a preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars at TIAA Bank Field.
Douglas DeFelice-Imagn Images

Rosen didn’t have much of a say in his trade from Arizona, but he probably regretted being passed around like a hot potato after that. He never had a real shot after leaving the Cardinals.

4. Odell Beckham Jr.

Dec 2, 2018; East Rutherford, NJ, USA; New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. (13) scores a touchdown against the Chicago Bears during the third quarter at MetLife Stadium.
Brad Penner-Imagn Images

OBJ leaving New York for Cleveland seemed like a fresh start, but it quickly turned into frustration. Between Baker Mayfield and constant injuries, the magic was gone.

3. Jay Cutler

Dec 22, 2013; Philadelphia, PA, USA; Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler (6) throws a pass during pre game at Lincoln Financial Field.

Cutler wanted out of Denver and got his wish with a trade to Chicago. He got a new team, but also a decade of memes and missed opportunities.

2. Carson Wentz

Dec 20, 2020; Glendale, Arizona, USA; Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz (11) against the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium.
Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images

Wentz left Philly hoping for a career revival, but the Colts and Commanders’ experiences were more like career funerals. Every stop just raised more questions than answers.

1. Russell Wilson

Oct 1, 2017; Seattle, WA, USA; Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson (3) rushes for a touchdown against the Indianapolis Colts during the third quarter at CenturyLink Field.
Joe Nicholson-Imagn Images

Wilson wanted out of Seattle to “let Russ cook.” Instead, he was rowed into Denver with a broken offense and a head coach who had looked over his head from day one.
