Yankees Rookie Says What Boone Won’t as Slump Deepens

Ben Rice Says What Boone Won’t as Yankees Spiral Continues

New York Yankees fans have seen enough. Sunday’s 7-3 loss to the Miami Marlins wasn’t just another defeat. And it was the franchise’s first-ever sweep by Miami. And yet, the silence from the usual voices was deafening.

Captain Aaron Judge? Quiet.
Manager Aaron Boone? Recycled clichés.
Veteran leaders? Nowhere to be found.

Instead, it was rookie catcher Ben Rice who finally said what fans have been shouting for weeks:

“I think a little sense of urgency would be good for us.”

Let that sink in.

Rice, just 25 years old with barely over 100 games of MLB experience, is the one sounding the alarm while others avoid accountability. His .231 batting average may not dazzle, but his timing sure does. With 16 home runs and 35 RBIs, Rice has shown he’s not afraid to step up on or off the field.

This isn’t his responsibility, though. A team packed with former MVPs, Gold Glove winners, and a World Series champion should have said it first. But they didn’t.

And Boone? He stuck to the script yet again:

“We gotta do it.”
“We gotta find a way.”
“I think we got a really good team out there.”

It’s not working.

The Yankees have now surrendered eight leadoff home runs this season. Their 8-11 road series record shows just how shaky things have gotten. More critically, they’re on the verge of slipping out of the Wild Card race altogether.

If the leaders won’t lead, then maybe Rice just did. But unless the Yankees snap out of this fast, there may be no October baseball in the Bronx.
