The 20 Most Delusional Teams in Sports History

Some teams don’t know when to stop believing their hype. Whether it’s years of mediocrity masked by one decent playoff run or an organization talking like a dynasty without the trophies to back it up, delusion in sports is a tale as old as time.

This list is dedicated to the teams who constantly overrate themselves, talk a big game, and act like they’re this close to greatness when reality tells a much sadder story. These are the 20 most delusional teams in sports history, from confused rebuilds to false confidence.

They tried convincing the world that adding DeMar DeRozan would bring them back to title contention. Meanwhile, the rest of the league moved on without telling them.

That playoff collapse against the Bruins should’ve sparked a rebuild, not a victory parade in their heads. Leafs fans deserved better than all that unquestioning optimism.

Al Davis kept chasing speed like it was still 1975. Somehow, they thought JaMarcus Russell was the answer to a question nobody asked.

14. 2012 Philadelphia Eagles
