Dune Part 2 is in theaters now and has blown the minds of moviegoers worldwide. If you’re anything like us, you came out of the theater simply wanting more! Enter the world of board games.
We decided to take a look at some of the most popular Dune board games over the last few decades. Not all of these are still available, so you may have to take to eBay if one piques your interest. But most are still available from your usual retail outlets. Game on!
10. Monopoly Dune
If you’re not really into board games with a capital B, then there’s always Monopoly Dune. It’s just, you know, Monopoly, except the pieces and board have been re-themed to Dune. If you’re already familiar with the rules of Monopoly, then Monopoly Dune will feel natural. The gameplay is the same. Newcomers can pick up the game easily, too.
9. Dune by Parker Bros
This Dune board game by Parker Bros. is an adaptation of Dune from the 1984 David Lynch film and was released the same year. Some feel this discontinued game is a classic, with its RPG-lite mechanics. However, others find the game filled with convoluted, poorly explained rules.
8. Dune Collectible Card Game
This 1997 Dune Collectible Card Game is a relic of a bygone era in tabletop games. It was released following the success of Magic: The Gathering. Now out of print, the art was inspired by the 1994 David Lynch film. Some of the pre-constructed decks featured variations inside each box.
7. Imperium
Dune: Imperium is a 2020 board game that focuses on deck-building and worker placement. Players seek to gain alliances using spycraft, troop deployment, and combat to earn victory points. It’s a great strategy game that rewards repeated play. Imperium was nominated for several awards.
6. Imperium Uprising
Overall, Dune: Imperium – Uprising is a sequel that’s an upgrade of the original. In this version, there is more of an emphasis on spycraft and combat. Both versions are also compatible with all released expansions, which include Dune: Imperium – Immortality and Dune: Imperium – Rise of Ix.
5. Adventures in the Imperium
From Modiphius Entertainment comes the 2021 tabletop RPG, Dune: Adventures in the Imperium. It stands apart for its sprawling gameplay. Unique from the other games, players create an entire royal house of the Landsraad. Throughout the campaign, many potential characters can be brought to the table. Events can be drawn from any point in the Dune timeline.
4. Conquest Diplomacy Betrayal
Dune: A Game of Conquest, Diplomacy & Betrayal is a re-release of the original Frank Herbert’s Dune from 1979. It brings in unique bluffing gameplay by asking characters to take bets. Combat troops are used as currency. Each player reveals the final dispensation of their forces at the last second before a victor is determined.
3. Dune House Secrets
The cooperative, narrative-based card game Dune: House Secrets was released in 2021. It’s adapted from Portal’s Detective: A Modern Crime Board Game. It can be played by a single player or up to four players. In multiplayer, players take on the role of original characters. The three-part narrative plays out like “choose your own adventure,” albeit with more detail.

2. War for Arrakis
Set for release on March 22, 2024, Dune: War for Arrakis is an asymmetric, miniature-heavy, territory-control game. The gameplay is stylistically similar to Twilight Imperium or The Game of Thrones Board Game. Playing as either the House Atreides or House Harkonnen, players compete for control of Dune. Expansions are also planned.

1. Gale Force Nine Dune
Set in the Dune universe, Gale Force Nine is a classic board game. It’s based on the Frank Herbert novels rather than the films. The game is a revision of the long-standing tabletop strategy game Dune first published by Avalon Hill in 1979. The player takes control of a major House, and gameplay focuses on warfare and diplomacy.
