With many new RTS titles and some of the greatest war games ever made ported to mobile, there’s never been a better time to play them on your phone. Here’s our list of the 10 best world war strategy games on mobile.
10. Supremacy 1914
Released in 2019, Supremacy 1914 ranks among the best real-time strategy World War I games on mobile. Making things interesting is the ability to see how the outcome of the war would’ve changed if a certain country (wink) made different decisions. Every step you take from fortifying forces, through developing new technologies, to boosting your economy affects the outcome.
9. Conflict of Nations: World War 3
In Conflict of Nations: World War 3, you’ll play against up to 100 players from around the globe. In this free-to-play, long-term strategy contest, games can last weeks – even months. You’ll build your strength slowly as you eliminate other players. While players battle to claim the most territory, winning revolves around gaining the most victory points.
8. Company of Heroes
While not an exemplar of a traditional “war game,” 2006 is Company of Heroes still delivers one of the finest WWII RTS experiences of the past two decades. Not perfect in places, nonetheless, the port plays very well on mobile. There are two playable factions. The goal is to capture strategic resource sectors, build bases, establish new units, and defeat enemies.
7. Pacific Fire
2019, Pacific Fire is a single-player vs. AI indie gem that’s surprisingly deep. You’re tossed into the Pacific theater of WWII. The game uses turn-based “WEGO” simultaneous movement. The game features 13 total scenarios. Three full Pacific campaigns are available, each increasing in complexity and difficulty.
6. Heroes of Normandie
Adapted from the physical wargame of the same name, Heroes of Normandie stands on its own merits. The adaptation to digital is excellent. It draws inspiration from classic hex-and-counter style games and, realistically, is a squad-level tactics game. Gameplay involves die-rolls and action cards, as well as strategic use of surrounding terrain and your units’ abilities.
5. Wars Across the World
Wars Across the World takes a universal approach to the wargame system. Rather than focusing on a single battle or war, it draws from multiple settings and scenarios across history. As you move from era to era, the mechanics translate appropriately. The card system allows for bespoke play for tactical and strategic choices.
4. Panzer Corps
Starting as a fan remake of the 1990s series Panzer General, 2011’s Panzer Corps is a lightweight but challenging WWII game. It’s played from the German perspective. You’ll play a series of linked scenarios, upgrading forces over time. The challenge comes in achieving a specific objective within a time limit, while also retaining your force.
3. Carrier Battles 4 Guadalcanal
For an outstanding carrier-battle experience played out at the operational level in the Pacific, Carrier Battles 4 Guadalcanal fully delivers. It combines plausibility and realism into an accessible, easy interface, with excellent AI. For those with an interest in war naval operations, this is a must-have game. Challenging from the start, you’ll feel like you’re right in the action.
2. Drive on Moscow
Set in the Eastern Front during WWII, 2013’s Drive on Moscow focuses on strategic battles set in and around Russia’s capital. The player either defends or drives on Moscow. You’ll face a series of tough decisions as you fight with realistic units against the ticking clock. Your main dilemma: Deciding when to push ahead or fall back.
