Angel Reese isn’t letting her name get dragged into another media-made rivalry, especially not by former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III.
On Thursday, Griffin took to X (formerly Twitter) to address the disturbing racism aimed at Reese online following her recent appearance on the NBA 2K26 cover. While his anti-racism message was well received, one controversial claim stood out: Griffin alleged that people within Reese’s “inner circle” told him the Chicago Sky forward has “grown to hate” Caitlin Clark due to constant media comparisons.
“People in Angel’s inner circle called me and told me I was right,” Griffin wrote. “Angel Reese has grown to hate Caitlin Clark because of the media always asking her about Caitlin.”
Angel Reese Fires Back
Reese didn’t hold back in her response.
“Lying on this app when everybody know the first and last name of everybody in my circle for clout is nastyyyy work,” she posted to X, clearly referring to Griffin’s claims.
Her mother also jumped in to defend her daughter, calling Griffin’s statement false and misleading.
“My daughter’s ‘circle’ is so small & tight… whoever you say ‘called’ you is not in her circle,” she wrote. “Just stay on that side because the doors are closed over here.”

Reese-Clark Rivalry
The online exchange comes as fans and media continue to fuel the perceived rivalry between Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark. The Indiana Fever guard sensation. While the two have clashed competitively on the court, both players have downplayed any personal animosity.
Despite Griffin’s insistence that his criticism came from a place of defending Reese, the incident has clearly struck a nerve.
For now, fans will have to wait for the next chapter to unfold on the court. Angel Reese and the Sky (6-13) face the Minnesota Lynx on Saturday. While Caitlin Clark and the Fever (9-10) host the Atlanta Dream Friday night.
