13 Golfers Who’d Be a PR Nightmare in the Social Media Era

Golf might be known for its tradition and etiquette, but that doesn’t mean every golfer played by the rules—or stayed out of trouble. Some of the game’s most iconic names would’ve made every tweet, comment, or viral video a PR team’s worst nightmare.

Whether it was their temper, their off-course antics, or just a knack for saying the wrong thing at the worst time, these players would’ve been trending for all the wrong reasons. From clubhouse drama to post-round soundbites, these golfers would’ve kept the internet buzzing for better or worse.

Sergio never quite figured out how to stay out of his own way, and social media would’ve only amplified it. His on-course meltdowns and post-match gripes would be reposted with every rage emoji imaginable.

12. John Daly

John Daly is beloved now, but Twitter would’ve had a field day with his diet of Diet Coke and smokes. Every blurry casino photo or wild outfit would’ve broken the internet daily.

11. Patrick Reed

Patrick Reed in a Twitter era? Say less. Every cheating allegation and awkward teammate moment would’ve had #ReedReceipts trending instantly.

10. Fuzzy Zoeller

Let’s just say Fuzzy’s comments at the 1997 Masters would not have survived the social media microscope. One press conference would’ve been enough to ignite a firestorm of think pieces and callouts.

9. Ian Poulter

Poulter lives for the drama, and he absolutely would’ve thrived and crashed on social at the same time. The self-confidence, the outfits, the Ryder Cup chirping—he’d be in everyone’s replies, every week.

8. Tiger Woods (Peak Chaos Era)

Tiger now is all calm and composed, but peak-era Tiger had layers of secrecy and scandal that would’ve made Twitter explode. TMZ would’ve been the least of his worries if fans had TikTok back then.

7. Rory Sabbatini

Rory had a knack for saying the quiet part out loud, and Twitter would’ve turned every quote into a meme. Between the slow-play drama and calling out Tiger, he’d be subtweeted into oblivion.

6. Vijay Singh

Between the cheating accusations and his combative personality, Vijay would’ve had every golf blog writing daily op-eds. He’d be the king of the cryptic Instagram Story.

5. Brooks Koepka (Unfiltered Version)

Even modern Brooks has had his viral moments, but an even more unfiltered version would’ve caused PR meltdowns weekly. From calling out other players to acting too cool for the sport, he’d be ratioed constantly.

4. Gary Player

Gary’s never been shy with his opinions, but that would’ve backfired fast on Twitter. Hot takes on fitness and politics would’ve taken over Golf Twitter in a heartbeat.
