Angel Reese is the league’s top rebounder, a two-time All-Star, and the emotional backbone of the Chicago Sky. But while her stats scream dominance, her rising number of technical fouls could soon force her to the sidelines.
After Chicago’s latest loss to the Atlanta Dream, the Sky now sit at 7-15, struggling to find their rhythm in the 2025 WNBA season. And things may get worse before they get better.

Angel Reese is One Game Away From the Line
Reese has racked up six technical fouls in just 21 games, the most of any player this season, according to Fox Sports. Her latest tech came during a heated exchange with Shakira Austin of the Washington Mystics, where both players were slapped with a double technical.
Under the WNBA’s updated rules, adjusted for the league’s expanded 44-game schedule—eight technical fouls now trigger an automatic one-game suspension without pay. For every additional two techs after that (10, 12, 14…), the suspensions continue to pile up, along with steeper fines.
That means Reese is just two whistles away from sitting out.
Her aggressive play has cost her more than just fouls. Reese has already paid $1,800 in fines this season:
- First 3 techs: $200 each
- Next 3 techs: $400 each
And the clock is still ticking.
Despite the controversy, Angel Reese continues to put up elite numbers—14.0 points, 44.6% shooting, and a league-best 12.6 rebounds per game. That production earned her another All-Star nod, where she’ll join Napheesa Collier’s team to take on Caitlin Clark’s squad this Saturday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
However, she missed Wednesday’s game against Brittney Griner and the Atlanta Dream due to a leg injury. Further putting more pressure on the Sky heading into the All-Star break.
Angel Reese is on a razor’s edge. Her fire has made her a force in the WNBA, but it’s also putting her on a path to suspension. With the Chicago Sky desperately needing a turnaround, her ability to walk that line between passion and composure could define the second half of the season.
