ESPN Host Apologizes for Wearing Packers Gear at Camp

Shae Peppler Cornette Caught in an NFC North Dilemma

Shae Peppler Cornette, one of ESPN’s familiar NFL faces, found herself in an awkward but humorous situation this past week. A lifelong Chicago Bears fan, Cornette was assigned to cover the Green Bay Packers training camp, and had to wear Packers gear on the job.

Posting on Instagram, she addressed the inevitable backlash from Bears Nation with a playful caption: “I’m sorry Bears fans… this was the hand I was dealt.”

As fans took to the comments with mixed reactions, some playful, others more fiery. It was clear Cornette’s loyalty wasn’t in question. But for someone who once hosted a Bears-centric show, Bears Unleashed, the green and gold were definitely out of character.

Before joining ESPN, Cornette covered the Bears for FOX 32 in Chicago. She built a reputation as a knowledgeable, passionate NFC North insider. She’s now a regular on SportsCenter and has appeared on First Take, often opposite her husband, Jordan Cornette — who was recently laid off by ESPN and has since joined NBC Sports.

Despite the wardrobe twist, Cornette’s professionalism never faltered. But it’s the kind of moment that NFL fans live for. Rivalries don’t stop at the field, and even reporters aren’t immune from the heat.

Packers-Bears Rivalry Heats Up Ahead of 2025 Season

The NFC North is shaping up to be a brutal battleground. The Packers, led by Jordan Love, are confident despite losing Jaire Alexander, while the Bears have reloaded with new head coach Ben Johnson and significant offensive line upgrades.

Meanwhile, the Vikings and Lions, both playoff teams last season are regrouping after losing key players. All four teams have a realistic shot at 10+ wins — but questions swirl around Minnesota’s QB spot, where JJ McCarthy is expected to start after a lost rookie year.

As full-pads practices begin Monday and preseason games kick off within a week, all eyes are back on the field. But for a moment, it was a reporter’s T-shirt that stole the show.
