Artie Burns’ Comeback Bid Hits Major Roadblock
Training camp heartbreak has struck again in the NFL. Artie Burns, the former Pittsburgh Steelers first-round draft pick, suffered what’s feared to be a torn ACL, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The injury occurred during Miami Dolphins camp and will likely end his season before it begins, pending MRI confirmation.
Burns, 30, had just signed a one-year deal with the Dolphins in hopes of reviving his career. One that has struggled to live up to early expectations.

Selected No. 25 overall in the 2016 NFL Draft, Burns came out of the University of Miami with raw talent — but plenty of question marks. While he flashed early potential, logging 16 pass deflections, 3 interceptions, a forced fumble, and a safety in his first two years. However, he never quite lived up to the billing in Pittsburgh.
His coverage inconsistencies and inability to lock down a starting role led to his departure after the 2019 season. Since then, he’s bounced around. A short stint with the Bears, followed by three seasons as a reserve in Seattle. And he only appeared in 21 games total.

This year, Burns was hoping to earn a spot in Miami’s secondary, a unit that includes fellow former Steeler Minkah Fitzpatrick. With Jalen Ramsey traded to Pittsburgh, there seemed to be a path for Burns to contribute in a backup role.
Unfortunately, this injury could mark the end of that opportunity. At age 30 and on a one-year contract, a season-ending ACL tear could derail any chance at one last NFL chapter.
Whether this spells the end of Artie Burns’ career remains to be seen, but for now, the road to redemption has been halted once again.
