Stephanie White Believes Clark’s Comeback Will Elevate the Fever
Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White isn’t backing down from the noise. As Caitlin Clark continues to recover from a groin injury, speculation has swirled about whether the team might be better without her. After all, the Fever have won five games out of their last six. But White, appearing on ESPN’s NBA Today, shut that conversation down quickly.
“When we re-implement and get Caitlin back onto the floor, I think we are going to be that much more dangerous,” she said.
White pointed out that Clark’s offensive gravity forces opposing defenses to change their approach. Even though the team has shifted to a smaller, more versatile lineup in her absence, White believes the 23-year-old point guard will take them to a new level.

Caitlin Clark’s Versatility Still a Game-Changer
White emphasized that Clark’s presence stretches the floor and creates higher-percentage looks for teammates. Her length also adds defensive versatility, something stats won’t always capture. Clark’s return could re-open the floor for stars like Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston, allowing the team to run a faster-paced offense.
“She makes the right reads and makes the right plays for our group,” White added.
Caitlin Clark has missed 17 games so far, and the team has not set a return date. While she’s been doing light shooting and some running, she hasn’t yet been cleared for full practice. If she returns in time for the August 9 game against the Chicago Sky, WNBA fans could finally get another matchup between her and rival Angel Reese, provided both are healthy.

“She demands so much gravity…she’s constantly seeing multiple players and she makes the right reads…everybody else will be able to get more high percentage looks bc of what she demands…and she brings her own defensive versatility bc of her length.” pic.twitter.com/DCxyObPv28
Despite fans pushing the narrative that Indiana plays better without her, White’s firm belief in Caitlin Clark’s impact serves as a reality check. If the star guard returns fully healthy, she could be the spark the Fever need to push toward a playoff run. And remind the league why she’s still one of the most talked-about players in the WNBA.
