14 NFL First-Round Picks Who Got Stuck on the Wrong Team

The NFL Draft is all about promise, potential, and hope—but sometimes, even the most talented players end up in the absolute worst situations. Whether it’s poor coaching, a toxic culture, or just plain bad luck, a lot of first-round picks never had a real shot to succeed because of where they landed.

These guys didn’t lack talent—they just got stuck on teams that didn’t know what to do with them. Here are 14 first-rounders who could’ve been stars somewhere else but got totally derailed by the wrong fit.

14. Josh Rosen – Arizona Cardinals

Rosen barely had time to unpack in Arizona before they replaced him with Kyler Murray. He never got a fair chance to prove himself on a team that was already falling apart.

13. Justin Blackmon – Jacksonville Jaguars

Blackmon showed flashes of greatness, but the Jags were a mess on and off the field. A better structure elsewhere might’ve helped him stay focused and fulfill his potential.

12. Robert Griffin III – Washington

Maybin was a pass-rushing prospect who never found his footing in Buffalo’s system. With better coaching and a clearer role, things might’ve played out differently.

10. David Carr – Houston Texans

Oct 15, 2006; Dallas, TX, USA; Houston Texans quarterback (8) David Carr rolls out with teammate (36) Ron Dayne against the Dallas Cowboys at Texas Stadium. The Cowboys beat the Texans 34-6.

9. Kevin White – Chicago Bears

5. Joey Harrington – Detroit Lions
