Orioles Option Veteran Slugger Down to Triple-A
The MLB roster shuffle continues in Baltimore, as the Orioles have optioned veteran outfielder Dylan Carlson to Triple-A Norfolk following Wednesday night’s matchup against the Texas Rangers.
This is Carlson’s second trip to the minors in just five days. He was previously sent down as part of a roster move involving Emmanuel Rivera, who was designated for assignment after only two games. Carlson was quickly recalled but now finds himself on the outside again. Even as Tyler O’Neil prepares to return from the injured list this weekend.
Carlson signed a one-year deal with Baltimore during the offseason and has produced a modest .234 batting average and .650 OPS over 118 plate appearances this season. Though he showed promise early in the year. A slump in June led to his benching and now his second demotion in less than a week.

A Tough Break for a Journeyman
This latest move highlights the volatility of life in the big leagues, especially for players on short-term deals. Carlson will now look to regain his form in Norfolk and wait for another opportunity to contribute at the MLB level.
With O’Neil’s return looming, the Orioles are clearly prioritizing an outfield shake-up as they continue their postseason push.
The Orioles announced they optioned outfielder Dylan Carlson to Triple-A Norfolk after yesterday’s game. This seemingly paves the way for them to reinstate Tyler O’Neill this weekend.
