10 Tennis Players Who Argued Like They Wrote the Rules

There’s a fine line between fighting for fairness and acting like the chair umpire personally offended your family. Some tennis players tiptoe right over that line with the kind of conviction usually reserved for courtroom attorneys and reality show contestants.

These are the players who never met a line call they didn’t want to dispute. Whether they were right, wrong, or somewhere in between, they argued with such passion you’d think they had a PhD in the rulebook.

Never one to go quietly, Fognini brought flair, fire, and a near-daily disagreement with officials to the court. He didn’t just challenge calls, he made it an art form.

Janković could turn a borderline ball into a full-blown courtroom scene. She loved a good back-and-forth with the umpire almost as much as she loved her backhand down the line.
