Phillies Predicted to Trade Nick Castellanos in Deadline Blockbuster
The Philadelphia Phillies may be on the verge of a surprising move. According to a recent report by The Athletic’s Jim Bowden, MLB executives believe the team could trade Nick Castellanos ahead of the deadline, even while contending for the National League East title.
Castellanos Stands Out in Slumping Phillies Outfield
Despite being the most consistent outfielder for Philadelphia this season, Castellanos’ name continues to pop up in trade chatter. He’s currently slashing .282/.325/.451 with 10 home runs and a 111 OPS+, and he’s started all but one game this year.
In contrast, fellow outfielders Brandon Marsh, Johan Rojas, and Max Kepler have failed to contribute consistently on offense. Still, some executives believe the Phillies may shop Castellanos if they can upgrade in right field.
“The Castellanos rumors just never go away,” Bowden noted. “Multiple GMs think there’s a chance he could get moved if Philadelphia can find a better right-field option.”

Contract and Trade Considerations
Castellanos, 33, is signed through 2026 at $20 million per year. Which could make a trade difficult without the Phillies eating some of that salary. While he’s a MLB two-time All-Star and Silver Slugger winner, his defense remains below average, which could factor into the front office’s decision.
With Philadelphia battling the New York Mets atop the division, moving their top outfielder would be bold. But not impossible. Packaging Castellanos for a better offensive or defensive fit could be the gamble needed to push the Phillies deeper into the postseason.
